Plan Your Meals

4443d7ebf8e434e9795e3ea707b2fda3Preparing your meals in advance takes practice and skill. Step one, oven first! This means roasting chicken, fish, sweet potatoes and/or green beans. Cook as much as you can at the same time. Do not make the temperature too high. Have a meat thermometer handy to make sure everything is fully cooked. Keep raw meat and veggies on different baking sheets or containers while cooking. Step two, start up that rice cooker! Rice is a simple way to add a starchy carb to any meal. Cook a bunch for the week and it stays good until you need it. Remember to portion it out. Keep a ½ cup measuring cup handy to measure portions for your containers. Finally, microwave frozen veggies! Buy frozen veggies in bulk. Have them if fresh produce is a little more expensive without sacrificing nutrition.

Are you drinking enough water?

Everyone knows of a close friend or family member who seems to collect empty water bottles in his or her car. But while it may look funny, they are most likely reaping all the benefits of being hydrated! Water is essential for the human body to function. The body does not store water so it must have fresh supplies, as water forms the basis of our blood, urine, sweat and digestive fluids. It is recommended that men and women drink at least 8-10 cups of water a day to keep properly hydrated. Eating high-water content foods such as fruit and vegetables can help aid in hydration for those who have a hard time drinking so much liquid. In addition, you can find many different low calorie fruit flavor packets to enhance the flavor of water. Keep drinking water regularly and enjoy the benefits of soft skin, more energy and weight loss!

The Dirty Dozen vs. The Clean 15

Knowing what meals are healthier than others is one thing, but knowing where the ingredients that make up these meals are grown is another. The USDA’s Shopper’s Guide to Pesticides in Produce is great starting point to keep informed on which produce is healthier in terms of being grown with the least amount of pesticides. Nearly two-thirds of over 3,000 samples tested by the USDA in 2013 contained over 160 types of pesticide residue. In an effort to inform the public of which produce to buy and which to stay away from, the USDA published the Dirty Dozen and the Clean 15. The Dirty Dozen list contains 12 produce items found to have the highest levels of pesticide. This list includes: apples, cherries, grapes, nectarines, peaches, pears, raspberries, strawberries, bell peppers, celery, potatoes, and spinach.

While this list shouldn’t push you away from eating these foods, it is recommended to buy the items on this list only if they are “organically” grown. The Clean 15 are produce approved to be bought at supermarkets as they were found with the lowest traces of pesticide. The list includes: onion, avocado, sweet corn, pineapple, mango, sweet peas, asparagus, kiwi fruit, cabbage, eggplant, cantaloupe, watermelon, grapefruit, sweet potatoes and sweet onion.

The Best Diet Tool – Food Journaling 101

Keeping a food journal is the single most important factor in being able to analyze what your diet consists of, and what it doesn’t. It's nearly impossible to remember the nutritional breakdown of every meal you eat, which is why a simple food journal comes in handy. You can track what you eat so you know what works and what doesn’t. Your food journal will become your personal individualized nutrition guide forever.

No diet book could ever replace how you eat or give you what you want to eat. The food journal will give you the freedom to eat what you want while you monitor the quality and quantity of the foods you eat. Always be honest with your portions and meals, as you must have an accurate foundation to improve on! You cannot improve your meals if you don't have an accurate place to start. Keep track of how you felt after eating your meals, and try to figure out why one meal made you feel happier or more energized than the other!

Why you need fish oil supplements

Fish oil supplements provide essential omega-3 fatty acids, which are necessary in keeping the mind and body healthy. The body does not naturally produce these fatty acids. Dr. Mark Cheng Private Workshop

It was a spring day about 5 years ago when I first met Doc at a workshop in Jersey. Little did I know my career as a trainer was about to be put into over drive within the next few hours. He drilled us over and over again with his highly detailed cues and helped us hone a set of eyes to pick up the most minuscule details of finer movement.

A true master of his craft, I have been very fortunate to call Dr. Mark Cheng both a mentor and a friend. He took me under his wing and taught me the ways of functional movement science, how to see what others don’t and how to correct what others can’t. His attention to fine detail is unmatched, and his coaching ability to run a full workshop and have everyone in sync like a well oiled machine is just amazing.

March Announcements!




Small gym. Serious members.

We have come so far! We have changed so many people and the energy has just been incredible. Getting people into serious shape is what we do. Giving them the best, safest, most up to date methods is how we do it. Developing a serious attitude about training hard and eating right is how we help you get there.

So much has happened and changed at the gym. Thank you all for your support, we have grown tremendously. I will work on keeping you guys updated and drop these blogs at least twice a month so you guys know what to expect. If I do not then you can get on me to remind me!

Legacy 60 Day Transformation Challenge 2014

It is that time of year again! Summer is around the corner and everyone is feeling the crunch of having to put on a short sleeve shirt for the first time after this long dreadful winter.  I am excited to introduce our second transformation challenge that will take us all the way to Memorial Day Weekend 2014. This will be a 60 Day period, roughly 8 weeks, and we will really hammer home all the concepts and training it takes to change your body.

There are a few different training options for you to enter. You must train with me at least once a week or be an online coaching client. All of the details are below, read on!

The Legacy Strength 60 Day Transformation Challenge runs from March 31st to May 23rd 2014. All transformations must start before March 31st and finish before May 24th, 2014.

Each Entrant Has 60 days to complete their body transformation.

1) To enter contest:

– You must attend workouts with Joey Olivo at Legacy Strength at least once a week, or you must be an online coaching client

– You must attend for all for ALL 60 days to achieve results.

– All entries “BEFORE” photos MUST BE RECEIVED before Midnight, EST, March 31st, 2014.

– All entries “AFTER” photos MUST BE RECEIVED before Midnight, EST, May 23rd, 2014.

2) You must take “BEFORE” photos between March 30-31st, 2014 and “AFTER” photos on Day 60, May 23rd, 2014.

All Photos MUST include your face and a newspaper or sign with the current date in order for your Transformation to be entered into the contest. There Are NO Exceptions.

3) Photos can be sent to our email at =>



– It is REQUIRED that your photo include the following

– MEN = SHORTS and NO SHIRT and NEWSPAPER or a sign with the date (March 31st, 2014)

– WOMEN = SHORTS or SPANDEX SHORTS and a SPORTS BRA or a BIKINI type outfit and NEWSPAPER or sign (March 31st, 2014)

– Wear the same clothing for both photos. The more apparent your transformation from your “BEFORE” photos to your “AFTER” photos will be.

– Recording your photos, workouts, and nutrition on a weekly basis will DRAMATICALLY INCREASE your chances of losing body fat.

4) In addition to providing Before & After photos, each contestant must submit EITHER a written 200-300 word testimonial OR a short video describing their before and after success story. This can be sent by email. BUT MUST BE SUBMITTED UPON COMPLETION OF THE 60-DAYS!

5) The 60-Day Body Transformation Challenge will be judged by a panel of 3 Expert Trainers including myself and two other colleagues.

By entering this Contest, each winner of a contest prize consents to the use of his/her name, and/or photograph in any publicity carried out by the Contest Sponsor and its advertising and promotional agencies without further notice or compensation.
