Carbohydrates are your body’s main source of fuel but are also a crucial part to a healthy diet. Carbohydrates can be separated into two types, the good(complex carbs) vs. the bad(simple carbs). A large difference between the two types is that complex carbs take more time for the body to digest and use, which in turn provides you with more energy; while simple carbs are digested fast and provide little energy and little nutritional value to your body.
For a healthy diet, you must limit the amount of simple carbs you consume. Simple carbs include sugary items such as soda, candy, artificial syrups, and white bread. You want to focus on having your primary source of carbohydrates from complex carbs. This includes: potatoes, rice, oatmeal, whole grain bread, and all vegetables and fruits. Getting the healthy complex carbs is a great way to get started eating right.
