The Tropical Workout and Latin Diets

Hello everyone! Im baaaack! Great vacation, much needed rest, got to spend time with family and friends and enjoy the natural beauty of the exotic island that is Puerto Rico.

Now my workout was not much while I was out there, I’m not gonna lie, it consisted of about 10 pushups on day one, and then I did a ton of biceps curls with 10oz cans of Medalla – and that was about it! LOL!

In reality, I spent a lot of time swimming at the beach, hiking in the rain forest and attempting to climb a couple of palm trees – which is SOOO much more difficult than you might think!

But, relaxing and sitting back allowing your body to recover is also important. I think it is an aspect that many people totally miss. . . especially living in NY. The concept of deloading your body is very important, and very overlooked.

Your body can only handle so much stress for so long. Working out is a stress, most of the time it is a positive stress, however there are some people who train everyday and never deload their body physically. On top of this you add the mental stress of everyday life, and now you have someone whose body is totally spent both physically and mentally trying to handle all of these situations which drain their energy. . . These are the same people by the way who tend to forget to breathe sometimes, and then complain of sudden “headaches”.

CHILL OUT! I know NY is stressful – just dont forget to breathe and make some time for yourself, its all part of balancing your life out!

Now on to the Latin Diet, (I know, I am the master at segues!) SO . . .  while in PR I asked myself about the the latin bodies, and where oh where do the curves of latin women come from???

Apparently a steady diet of rice and beans and some chicken will yield great proportions. How does it happen? Granted, I truly believe that it has something to do with the sun and intense heat that spike the metabolism. . . but also the carbs from the rice and the fiber and protien from the beans and chicken provide a complete meal with a majority of the macronutriens covered. Granted even though it is not the BEST diet out there, it sure as hell beats the typical American diet, and the proof is clearly visible.

Latin diets mostly consist of REAL FOOD – can the Latin diet be more well rounded? SURE!

But is it the worst thing for you? Hell NO!

Take home lesson – Eat mostly real food that does NOT come out of a box or a bag and you will be much better off than most people out there. American diets rely so damn much on convenience that they forget what is actually good for them. (Read: please dont get me started on Special K)

Eat real food (i.e. – rice, beans, platanos y verduras . . . obviously only a handful each PER MEAL!)   drink mostly water and you will be okay – we can tweak the rest later!

Stay strong,

(Just so u know ___ I know this post was Spanglish  . . . thats how I rolll love me or hate me!)
